How I Built (and Rebuilt) My Coaching Membership

Uncategorized Mar 12, 2025

Have you ever felt like you were running in circles, trying to figure out the perfect business model—only to realize the answer was right in front of you all along?

That was me.

I spent years building my first coaching membership, only to shut it down in 2019. Then, I spent another two years trying to relaunch a membership program, testing different ideas, names, and structures—until it finally clicked.

The best offer for my business was something I had already created.

In this post, I’m sharing the real story behind my coaching membership, the mistakes I made, and the key lessons that helped me finally build a thriving program.

The Mistakes I Made the First Time

When I first launched my coaching membership, I followed someone else’s model. It seemed successful for them, so I figured it would work for me, too.

Mistake #1: Copying a model that didn’t fit my lifestyle
The coach I was learning from had a team handling everything behind the scenes. Meanwhile, I was juggling work, kids, and trying to do everything myself.

Mistake #2: Overdelivering and burning out
I packed my membership with too many calls, too much content, and too much hands-on coaching—without a sustainable way to keep up.

 Mistake #3: Unclear messaging
People joined, but they didn’t always understand what they were getting. Some expected high-level strategy when I was teaching foundational business growth.

The result? I was drained. The membership wasn’t growing the way I wanted, and I ultimately shut it down.

Why I Relaunched It (And What I Did Differently)

I knew I wanted a membership program, but I didn’t want to repeat the same mistakes.

This time, I did things differently:

I focused on what I do best. Instead of trying to teach everything, I honed in on what my audience needed most—content creation and brand positioning.

I simplified my structure. I created a framework that allowed me to provide value without overwhelming myself or my members.

I refined my messaging. Instead of being vague about what was included, I got clear: This membership is for experts, leaders, and entrepreneurs who want to create content that builds credibility and attracts clients.

I played the long game. I committed to running my membership for at least three years, knowing that I would refine and improve it along the way.

The result? A $42,000 launch and a membership that continues to grow.

Whether you're thinking about joining a membership or creating your own, episode 41 of my podcast will save you from so many mistakes and show you what's really possible when you find the right fit.
